Chinese Tea Ceremony—the Art of Life

All tea in the modern world today, more or less can find trace back to China and India. Once China was the sole provider of tea to the world, with England importing millions and millions of pounds of tea each year.

Tea has always been recognized as one of the seven daily necessities of life in China, along with firewood, oil, rice, salt, soy sauce and vinegar.

China produce many type of tea, there are more than 100 varieties of green tea alone. Chinese tea can be summarized into six major types:

White, yellow, Green (non oxidized)
Oo-long (Semi Oxidized)
Red, Dark/Pu’er (fully Oxidized/fermented)

The Chinese tea ceremony is a rich cultural practice that embodies mindfulness, respect, and connection to the environment and people. Yet, this intricate art remains largely unrecognized through the Capital region.

Lead by Wei Qin, the art form of Tea Ceremony has thriving in the Capital Region through Chinese Community Center.

Wei trained by Tea Ceremony professionals in Shanghai, China since 2009. Upon taken the position of president of the Chinese Community Center in 2022, Wei start to further integrated the art of tea ceremony into community activities. She established a dedicated Tea House corner in her office and launched a Tea Ceremony club. This initiative has created a welcoming space for individuals from diverse backgrounds who wish to learn more about this art form. Tea ceremony classes through the CCC’s Summer Art Immersion program in 2004 has been well received by people in all ages, background and gender.

The seminar titled "Chinese Tea Ceremony: The Art of Life" was conducted at Union College as part of Eastern Study Week. This event attracted a diverse audience, including college students and seniors, illustrating my capacity to engage and inspire individuals from various demographics.

Wei and Chinese Community Center welcome everyone who interested in this unique art form in CCC building, located on 11 Avis Dr, Latham, New York.
