CCC Summer of 2024 Traditional Chinese Art Immersion:

Chinese traditional art & culture has its own unique heritage and existence value. This summer CCC offer an experience for everyone to experience and learn traditional Chinese art and culture, with 4 featured classes.

1.      Chinese painting:

2 classes per month, 2 hours each class, 6 classes in total.

Course time: Saturdays 9:45-11:45am

Tuition: CCC members $30/session, non members $35/session

Class open date: June 15th 2024

Student requirements: 11 years old and above. (5-10 people/class)

Single payment trial classes are welcome. 10% discount on the tuition fee will be offered to those who participate 5 classes and more, in addition, they can also participate in the Chinese Art & Culture Season art exhibition on August 31.

Artist bio:

Dr. Anping Liu holds a Ph.D. degree in economics and served as a principal economist for the State of New York Department of Public Service.  He has also taught art for many years.  Currently, Dr. Liu is a member of  New York Folklore Society, Overseas Chinese Artists Association, and Saratoga Beekman Art District Organization.  Additionally, he served as the vice president of Chinese Community Center in 2004-2005.  He has participated in art fairs in the Capital District such as Albany Art Associates, Art in the Park and Beekman Street Art Fair in Saratoga, and Stockade Villagers' Outdoor Art Show in Schenectady.  His artwork in a 2021 Albany Art Associates gallery was highly regarded by Times Union (click link to view the article). Dr. Liu's most recent individual exhibition is at Valley Artisans Market Gallery, Cambridge, New York.  His paintings have been collected by many individuals, his work has also been accepted in Albany Center Art Gallery for AAPI Heritage month “Thread” exhibition until July 2024.

2. Traditional Calligraphy:

2 classes per month, 2 hours each class, 6 classes in total.

Artist bio:

Richard Yong Wang, studied calligraphy since childhood, learned from professional calligraphers until high school graduation. After that I learned and practiced by myself. So far, it s over 40 years. I have learned all 6 calligraphy scripts (styles), but lately, I specialized in running script and Cursive script. In high school, I won the excellent award of the county calligraphy competition, and I won the third prize at the department and school calligraphy competition when I was in university.  I have represented Confusion Academy and Chinese Community Center to attend multicultural events in capital region since 2010 to present calligraphy and  traditional Chinese cultures.  I also  have taught calligraphy class in Chinese school before. I am holding a weekly calligraphy class in  CCC since  last January.  In this year I  started a project called  from breath to brush” it s a series of Chinese Calligraphy exhibition and seminars in public libraries of capital region to show how people that not only calligraphy is an art, but also can use calligraphy as a tool of meditation to focus and relax mind. It can be a meaningful method to help people in mental health. so far I have completed  exhibiting in Albany public library and Troy public library. 

3. Gu Qin— Chinese 7-string Zither class

One class per week.

Course time: Saturdays 11:45am-12:45pm

Small class: (3-5 people): CCC members $25/session, non members $30,1 hour class.

Private lessons: CCC members $35/session, non members $40/session. 45 minutes class. (Can be arrange after small class on Saturdays)

Class open date: June 15th

Artist Bio:

Wenrui Shi, As one of the first masters graduated in the Master of Arts in Chinese Music and Culture program at the Bard College Conservatory of Music. At 15, she fell in love with the guqin and was guided by Professor Zhao Jiazhen. She studied gugin with Xiao Xiao at East China Jiaotong University. In 2018, She won silver prize in the professional group of the first China-Canada Arts Festival and International Invitation Competition, gold prize in the Jiangxi Region of the Second Hongqin Cup, and first prize in the professional group of the first Folk Instrumental Music Art Exhibition in Jiangxi Province. In the 2019 Second Hongqin Cup, she won the gold prize for the Youth A Group.

 

In 2022, she was awarded Outstanding Instructor of the Third Hongqin Cup. For The 4th Singapore Guqin Arts Festival "Nan Feng Bei" International Guqin Competition, she was awarded Outstanding Instructor. In addition, many of her students have won gold or silver medals. 

4.Chinese Tea Ceremony:

There are 2 classes per month, 90 minutes each time, 6 classes in total.

Course time: Saturdays1:15pm-2:30pm

Tuition: CCC members $25/session, non members $30/session.

Artist Bio:

Wei Qin, President of Chinese Community Center, studied tea ceremony in Shanghai. Her tea ceremony has been enjoyed by senators, media professionals and many Chinese and non Chinese individuals. The class will talk about tea culture, students will learn about white tea, green tea, Iron Goddess, Pu erh tea and others.
